ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the outward flow of low temperature plasma ablation combined inferior turbinate fracture treatment for chronic hypertrophic rhinitis nasal ventilation function. Method:NR6 nasal resistance meter and A1 nasal sound reflection instrument were used to test 40 patients of Hypertrophic rhinitis nasal septum deviation merger before and after operation for one year, recording the nasal airway resistance,0 to 5 cm nasal cavity volume and the nasal minimum cross-sectional area, combine visual analog scale to analyze the changing parameter value, and to analyze the test values between the correlation. Result:Postoperative patients of NCV, NMCA, NS value was higher than that of preoperative, VAS, NAR value compared with preoperative lower (P<0.05); Postoperative VAS was negatively correlated with NCV, NMCA, NS (r=0.472, 0.698, 0.586, P<0.05); VAS was positively related with NAR (r=0.877, P<0.05); Postoperative NAR was negatively correlated with NCV, NMCA and NS (r=-0.464, -0.870, -0.707, P<0.05); there was a positive correlation between postoperative NS and NCV, NMCA (r=0.442, 0.741, P<0.05). Conclusion:On the deflection of nasal septum (lighter, smaller scale, the part of the deflection of a back with no obvious compressive deformation and lateral deflection of inferior turbinate) in patients with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis, low temperature plasma ablation combined offshoring inferior turbinate fracture surgery can effectively improve the nasal ventilation function, there is a good correlation between postoperative test values.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the appearance and clinical value of MRI in the diagnosis of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The clinical, pathological and MRI findings of five patients with pathology proved embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses were retrospectively analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The major clinical symptoms included nasal obstruction (4 cases), exophthalmus (4 cases), decreased eyesight (2 cases), epistaxis (1 case), decreased olfactory sensation (1 case) and restriction of eyeball movement (1 case). All 5 cases involved multi-location. Among them, 4 cases mainly located in the ethmoid sinus, one mainly located in the nasal septum. According to the IRS, 1 case was at stage II, the other 4 cases were at stage III. Compared to the grey matters, on T1 weighted image, the masses were homogenously isointensity in 2 cases, isointensity with patchy hyperintensity in 3 cases. On T2 weighted images, the masses were slightly hyperintensity with patchy hypointensity in 2 cases. Slightly hyperintensity with patchy hyperintensity in 3 cases. All 5 cases were markley heterogeneously enhanced after administration of contrast agents, with patchy of non-enhanced area. Of them, two were grape-like enhanced. Four cases presented with intratumor hemorrhage. Five with bony destruction. All of the 5 cases showed orbits and anterior cranial fossa meningeal involvement.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>There are some special MRI findings in embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma located in nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. MRI can depict the encroachment of the tumor accurately, and may play an important role in clinical staging and in curative effect evaluation.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To compare therapeutic effects of acupuncture at local points of eye and western medicine on paralytic strabismus.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>One hundred cases were randomly divided into an acupuncture group and a medication group. The acupuncture group (58 cases) was treated with acupuncture at local points of eye, Jingming (BL 1), Tongziliao (GB 1), Shangming (Extra) etc. were selected; and the medication group (42 cases) was treated with oral administration of Methycobal and Vitamin B1. After treatment of 5 courses, the therapeutic effects in the two groups were observed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The total effective rate of 94.8% in the acupuncture group was superior to that of 85.7% in the medication group (P<0.01); the therapeutic effects of the acupuncture group for treatment of oculomotor nerve and abducent nerve were significantly better than that of the medication group (P<0.05); the acupuncture group was better than the medication group in synoptophore examination results and improvement of rima oculi and pupil (P<0.01, P<0.05), the acupuncture group was superior to the medication group in improvement of the function of paralysis eye muscle, including medial rectus and lateral rectus except superior oblique (P<0.01, P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Acupuncture on local points of eye is an effective therapy for paralytic strabismus.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To establish an artificial somatic-autonomic reflex arc in rats and observe the following distributive changes of neural fibers in the bladder.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group, spinal cord injury (SCI) group, and reinnervation group. DiI retrograde tracing was used to verify establishment of the model and to investigate the transport function of the regenerated efferent axons in the new reflex arc. Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) in the DiI-labeled neurons was detected by immunohistochemistry. Distribution of neural fibers in the bladder was observed by acetylcholine esterase staining.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>DiI-labeled neurons distributed mainly in the left ventral horn from L3 to L5, and some of them were also ChAT-positive. The neural fibers in the bladder detrusor reduced remarkably in the SCI group compared with the control (P < 0.05). After establishment of the somatic-autonomic reflex arc in the reinnervation group, the number of ipsilateral fibers in the bladder increased markedly compared with the SCI group (P < 0.05), though still much less than that in the control (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The efferent branches of the somatic nerves may grow and replace the parasympathetic preganglionic axons through axonal regeneration. Acetylcholine is still the major neurotransmitter of the new reflex arc. The controllability of detrusor may be promoted when it is reinnervated by the pelvic ganglia efferent somatic motor fibers from the postganglionic axons.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the role of poly-lactic acid and agarose gelatin in promoting the functional recovery of the injured spinal cord. Methods Poly-lactic acid (PLA) or agarose was embedded in the space between two stumps of the hemisectioned spinal cord. Immunohistochemistry was used to show astroglia proliferation and the infiltration of RhoA-positive cells. Locomotor activity recovery was evaluated by testing the function of hindlimbs. Results Astroglias and RhoA labeled non-neuronal cells accumulated in the area adjacent to the implant, while the number of RhoA-positive cells was decreased dramatically in the absence of implant. Animals implanted with agarose gelatin recovered more quickly than those with PLA, concomitant with a higher survival rate of the neurons. Conclusion Both PLA and agarose gelatin benefited the recovery of spinal cord after injury by providing a scaffold for astroglia processes. Modulation of the rigidity, pore size and inner structure of PLA and agarose gelatin might make these biodegradable materials more effective in the regeneration of the central nervous system (CNS).

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To find out the prevalence of sleep disturbances for children aged 2 to 12 years old in Chengdu.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Totally 1 600 children aged 2-12 years old were selected from 5 districts in Chengdu and investigated by using questionnaire.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All 1 526 survey papers were returned. The average time of every day sleep in each age group (infant group, pre-school age group and school age group) were 12.12 hours, 10.42 hours and 9.47 hours. The sleep time of the children in those three groups were much less than the standard one. The proportion of the prevalence of sleep disturbance was 37.88%. Among them, there were snoring in 5.57%, choke/gargling in 1.25%, sleep inquietude in 7.86%, mouth breathing in 4.59%, sweating in 21.36%, member spasm in 2.82%, molar teeth in 8.26%, night talking in 4.02%, somnambulate in 0.2%, bedwetting in 1.95%, and difficulty falling asleep in 10.75%. There were significant differences shown in different sexes and ages, and in incidence of symptoms of some sleep disturbances. The affecting factors were the co-sleeping, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pollen allergy and their parent's snore.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The prevalence of sleep disturbances being higher and more severe than before might be due to the less sleeping time in Chengdu in children aged 2 to 12 years old. More attention should be paid by parents, the Ministry of Education and the children's doctors.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the correlation between the CT perfusion and microvessel density (MVD),expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in neoplasm of head and neck.Methods Eighty-eight lesions of head and neck were scanned by spiral CT.The largest axial surface of the mass was searched on unenhanced imaging,and at this level the dynamic contrast enhanced scan series was acquired.Time-density curves (TDC)were created from circular or oval regions of the interest drawn over the mass,target artery by Toshiba Xpress/SX spiral CT with perfusion functional software.The parameters were measured including:peak height (PH ),peak time (PT ),mean transit time (MTT), contrast enhancement ratio(RPH),and perfusion flow (PF).Histopathological slides of 35 masses were carefully prepared for the anti-CD34 and VEGF immunohistochemical staining and tumor microvessel density and calculation of VEGF expression scores.The parameters of CT perfusion were correlatively study with MVD and VEGF.Results(1)The TDC of CT perfusion imaging could be classified into 3 types.The TDC of 53/77 (68.9% )malignant tumors presented the type with rapid ascending and rapid descending after injecting contrast.The TDC of 6/9 malignant lymphomas showed low platform curve。(2)The PF median of thyroid carcinoma was 82.2(41.0,183.4)ml?min~(-1)?100 g~(-1).There was significantly difference in the parameters of CT perfusion among thyroid carcinoma and squamaous cell cancer (Median 23.8 (7.0, 108.4)ml?min~(-1)?100 g~(-1))and lymphomas (Median 24.5(13.2,78.6)ml?min~(-1)?100 g~(-1)).(3) MVD in benign tumors was (44.7?3.4),and in malignant tumors,it is (49.6?14.8 ).There was no significantly difference in MVD between benign and malignant tumors.High VEGF expression was found in 15 malignant tumors and 1 benign tumors,low VEGF expression was found in 9 malignant tumors and 10 benign tumors.(4)There were no significantly difference in VEGF expression and MVD.There was good correlation between MVD (M 40.0 )and PH (M 26.9 ),RPH (M 14.5 ),PF (M 46.8 )(r = 0.35,45.49, 0.41 ).There was correlation between VEGF(M 4.0)and MTT(M 16.7 )(r = -0.41 ).Conclusion The TDC and CT perfusion could be helpful to differentiate benign from malignant tumors. CT peffusion in neoplasm of head and neck is correlated with MVD and VEGF,and may reflect MVD and expression of VEGF.
